Please Deflate

For the A-Z Blog challenge, I will be addressing some of life's big questions.
Perhaps together we can find the answers to many heretofore unsolvable mysteries.

is for Inflatables

You know those awful, giant inflatable advertising things you see in front of various business?

Why?

Have you ever driven past a car dealership and seen a blown-up Uncle Sam and thought to yourself, "Hey, that reminds me. I wanted to buy a car there today"?

Or, "What a cute giant Gorilla. I guess I do need new furniture"?

Or maybe you saw some of those flappy things and said to your spouse, "Look at that annoying flappy thing. Let's go buy a new cell phone."

Yeah. Me neither. Yet we see those beasts all over the place anyway. Someone's making money for no reason, and I'm pretty sure it's not the car dealership.

Tomorrow's Question:
The Enigma of Mrs. Jetson

  1. Ha, I kinda like those inflatable things! They've never encouraged me to buy what they're promoting, but I think they're fun to look at! :D

    1. They just seem so unrelated to what they're trying to sell. :)

  2. You don't get them so much in the UK, but there does seem to be a general school of advertising thought that says if you annoy people enough, they'll remember your brand. Yes, as the brand that annoyed them.

    1. Well, the UK has its fair share of annoying advertising! :) Just be grateful you avoided the inflatable stuff!

  3. I'm kinda with Kyra on this one. I think the ones that look sort of like people, that bob and bend in the wind, are fun to watch. But they don't make me want to buy anything either.

    1. Maybe all they're meant to do is attract attention--even if it's negative attention. :)

  6. Yeah, this seems like a bizarre marketing strategy.

    1. It's really weird. But it must work or why would they keep doing it?

  7. You made me laugh this morning. When I think of inflatables, I think of the bouncy toys they bring to the schools for the kids to play on. Out here in the boonies we don't have too many advertising inflatables.

  8. Honestly, if I saw a giant inflatable gorilla, I would stop and let my kids touch it. How often do you get to pet a giant gorilla toy? I wouldn't buy anything though.

  9. Is it safe to use "blown-up Uncle Sam" in a blog? Doesn't that invite the attention of Homeland Security, or some such body?

If we don't see your blog tomorrow, or after that, we'll know what happened to you. Sigh!

  10. Is it lame that I actually miss these things?? They were all over in Utah but we don't have em in Hawaii :)

    1. The thing is, I don't hate them, I just think they serve no purpose in generating business. But what do I know.
